BIOGRAPHY

I became interested in painting while I was still in optometry school. After graduating, I studied at the Art Students’ League with Jack Falagasso. To this day, I practice Optometry two days a week and paint the other five!

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“REAL AND SURREAL” I paint in a realistic, sometimes surrealistic manner, and enjoy using classical techniques, often underpainting the image in monochrome first, before going into color. I find that I cannot be happy unless there is a painting on the easel.

The moment one painting is finished, another must be started, usually within a day or two. Some of the paintings have symbolism in them, especially involving Zen Buddhism, but also about war, homelessness, and human rights. Other works are simply painted out of love, which I think is the most important thing I can do.
